Can you tell us a bit of how you started to practice?
I started practicing 18 years ago and been teaching yoga for 16 years. I used to be an Art Director in a design house.
I was part-timing for some time before becoming a permanent yoga teacher. Now, I’m teaching at Pure Yoga.
What encouraged you to begin teaching yoga?
There were not many people who knew about yoga when I first begun, it started from a small and cosy studio.. Like a living room out of an apartment. Dealing with work stress was one reason that I started with yoga. It moved at a totally different pace as compared to my advertising job.
Though I’m not an outspoken person, I am invited to learn the knowledge and be trained by a teacher. I took it as a learning point.
What type of yoga do you teach?
Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga and Wall Rope Yoga. These are areas that I specialize in.
Share with us about your typical day of your yoga teaching days.
What is one of the most valuable lessons you’ve learned from the mat and have been able to incorporate into your daily life?
The essence of yoga becomes your way of life. It’s not just for postures, but for an overall lifestyle. It is about healthy living, it teaches you how to treat people, creating more awareness level for relationship management.
There are many areas to learn about philosophy of yoga.
As yoga teacher, what do you wish to deliver to your students at the end of the day?
First of all, make a living is one thing. However, seeing people to become better with the given change after several practices, it is one big fulfilling purpose for me.
These can be felt by their aura and vibes, and I really love how the friendships are built like a big community.
Yoga is trending in Asia, including Singapore. Tell us about your sentiments.
I will say, it’s a good thing. It will encourage more people who want to practise and learn. In Singapore, we are quite fortunate to have good presence of yoga studios here.
Yoga has been around for many years. It does not fade away like other potential trending fitnesses. The more people who practices yoga, the better it sustains. Finding balance with spiritual approach is something intangible that yoga can provide. And, that’s probably how it sustains itself.
Define yoga. What will it be like at the end of your yoga journey?
It is a form of lifestyle for me, it integrates well into my daily life.
10 years more, I think that I will still be teaching yoga. Additionally, I will be more involved with the teachers’ training.
Be in your present moment, enjoy what’s given at the present moment.
