Pacers are the unsung heroes of any marathon course, offering steady guidance and consistent pacing that lead runners through the toughest stretches of any race. In anticipation of my participation in the upcoming Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2025, I had the unique opportunity to train alongside SCSM’s official pacers from Running Department for my Half Marathon race.

Running with the pacers provides motivation, support, and peace of mind, allowing runners to focus on the rhythm of their stride. The run was structured in loops covering variable distances, a strategy that makes extended runs more manageable and consistent. This design ensures that runners of all levels feel supported, whether they’re fine-tuning their endurance or testing their limits. For those training for their first Marathon or Half Marathon (like in my case), this format can be particularly encouraging.

On the technical side, running alongside experienced pacers is a fantastic opportunity to refine your stride and learn valuable insights. Pacers are incredibly approachable, sharing tips on topics such as hydration, recovery, and improving running form.
Crossing paths with cheerful running groups and pacers, the overall experience was genuinely uplifting for slower-paced runners like me!

Mark your calendars: The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2025 returns on 6 and 7 December! With just 10 weeks to go, I’m grateful for this running community. It lightens the mental load, offers great camaraderie, and provides smart strategies to keep us going strong.
