The first thing I did after putting down my luggage was to change into my swimming trunks, and lie along the central spine that meanders through the hotel. This handsome feature @ Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Kuta, is completely surrounded by the pool and it forms the arterial experience of my stay at the hotel.
An Architectural Win
The hotel was designed with utter intelligence, providing stayers with a sense of privacy and comfort in an otherwise limited space in Kuta.
Architecturally, the development was designed to create a safe and cosy environment where travelers can wash their weary bones in the Balinese sun away from the hustle and bustle that is just right outside the hotel.
This central spine that meanders through the entire hotel is specked with bars and a large Jacuzzi. Patrons can order a glass of their famous cocktail and lounge in the heated water.
A clean, simple and bright room is what anyone would need in Bali. The only decoration that mattered here was the view into the central courtyard and even at night, this man-made sky well provides a sense of calmness and lush that puts anyone’s mind at ease.
The pool access feature of my ground floor room gave me direct access to a little piece of Balinese heaven. If you are like me, you might sometimes have to work on some emails during your holiday… The outdoor balcony was definitely a great place to type away and prevented me from feeling too sorry about myself.
Rethinking Local Designs
What struck me were the way the high ceilings and lush greenery created a sense of serenity right at the entrance of the hotel. This lushness and peacefulness continued throughout the development, creating a consistent experience of a urban getaway in the heart of the busy district of Kuta.
The impressive lamp feature in the lobby area was able to use local designs and materials in an artful and impressive way. Designed impeccably, the feature was neither ostentatious nor simplistic, but exudes a tasteful quality to drives an impression the moment you enter the hotel.
The cafe where I had my lunch was right above the entrance. Yet another lush and green environment that puts any visitor’s mind at ease while he or she can wolf down a plate of their famous Kambing Goreng (Mutton Fried Rice). A great lunch spot to people watch as well as visitors stream in and out of the hotel.
Bringing Family-friendliness to a Whole New Level
Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Kuta, has also managed to carve out a section of the hotel (away from the central courtyard) as a sanctity for families with young children. The playroom could hold at least 20 kids at any one time. It is by all standard, a kiddy holiday heaven. The hotel even run play groups and sessions for the children while the parents can lounge by the pool or participate in some yoga classes in the gym right above the playroom.
Dinner Among Fairy Lights
The restaurant where dinner and breakfast are served is yet another example of the artful design of the hotel. The indoor seating area joins up with this outdoor space seamlessly. In the daytime, you can never imagine how this front yard right in front of the hotel would transform at night.
Dinner was splendid and the special cocktail concoctions they have in the hotel restaurant is out of this world. The grape cocktail did particularly leave a deep impression with me. Be sure to have the bartender make you a Four Point ‘Special’ and be prepared to be surprised!
